In all of the oft-repeated “Now We Are Living Outside of America” seminars I've had to sit through so far (at least 10 and counting), excessive “amusement by and interest in” in your new host culture is taken to be a sign of “honeymoon-period culture shock” that will eventually collapse into terrible depression and reactionary xenophobia.
